First Lutheran Church praises God through music.
"My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies." ~Psalm 108:1-4 |
| First Lutheran Church is a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR), which provides opportunities for performance, educational workshops and access to the latest techniques of the craft. Two octaves of bells were given by members of the church; the cost averaged $100 per bell for the set of 24. A memorial or honorarium tag was inserted into the handle of each handbell, and that practice has continued as the choir has grown to five octaves of handbells. | ||
|
English handbells first rang out at First Lutheran in the fall of 1985 under Denise Pearson's direction. Members of the handbell choirs have traveled to AGEHR-sponsored handbell festivals throughout Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Joyful Sounds Handbell Choir rehearses each Wednesday at 5:15 P.M.
FLC also enjoys music from the TAP Handbell Choir , students in grades 6 - 8. |
