Youth Service Activities at First Lutheran Church
"Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."      ~ 1 John 4:11, 12

Health Kits
Wrapped in a large towel are a wash cloth, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, nail clippers, comb, and bandages.

Junior and senior high school youth at First Lutheran Church have assembled close to 2000 of these kits over the last nine years. They pack and ship the Health Kits to Lutheran World Relief headquarters. Workers for Lutheran World Relief then distribute the kits around the world to those in need.

Operation Christmas Child
Each year our church family participates in Operation Christmas Child sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. Billy Graham's son, Franklin, started this program.

We fill shoeboxes full of health items and toys for kids in war-torn countries, tent cities, or drought areas. These are presents for children of various ages. Our younger kids fill the shoeboxes. The middle and high schoolers travel to the local collection center at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown to help load the 18 wheeler, and then the shoeboxes go on their way to kids around the world.

The youth participate in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine, an international youth movement to fight hunger. FLC Youth raised over $500 in February 2008.
Summer Service
The middle and high school students participate in service projects over the summer. They have worked at Erie Second Harvest Food Bank, Warren Humane Society, Bethesda Children's Home in Meadville, and cleaned up three Lake Erie beaches on Presque Isle.

Fight World Hunger
The youth host a monthly summertime Salad and Sandwich Bar following Sunday worship, and they also host their annual Souper Bowl of Caring, a lunch of baked potato and soup prepared and served by the youth. They send all donations to Lutheran World Relief to help conquer world hunger.

In July 2008, we'll be heading to Overlook Farm to learn about small family farms around the world and how we can help these families earn a living through farming and providing animals. Overlook Farm is part of Heifer International, a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance and sustainability.

Hosanna Industries

Once again this August, we will go on a servant event to Pittsburgh and work with Hosanna Industries. We will refurbish houses in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

This mission trip is open to students 10 years old - adults. Shown at right are a few of the volunteers from 2007.
